Kloof is a leafy, upmarket village 25km west of Durban at the top of Field's Hill. The hill is a key section of the world-famous 89km Comrades Marathon run annually between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, the KwaZulu-Natal povincial capital.

"Kloof" is the Afrikaans word for "Gorge" and the Kloof Gorge froms part of the beautiful Krantzkloof Nature Reserve with it's rich birdlife including Crowned Eagles. The attractive Everton Conservancy, the oldest private Conservancy in South Africa, is also part of the Kloof area and to crown the ecological attractions - the spectacular "Valley of 1000 Hills Tourism" Experience start in Kloof.

Kloof is therefore a magnet for eco-tourists, but is also a welcome retreat for business executives. Naturally this lush area offers only the best of B & B guesthouse accommodation, usually set in parklike gardens. Kloof Country Club golf course is also very welcoming to visitors.

You will find some of the finest private Schools in Kloof namely Thomas More College, St. Mary's Diocesan School for Girls as well as Highbury Preparatory School in Hillcrest and Kearsney College in nearby Botha's Hill.
